Google+ move to take over their Places product really screws tourism businesses that don’t have Zagat ratings. While I don’t have data to prove it, my instinct is that those businesses with Zagat ratings will get significantly higher Google+Local click traffic thank those who don’t.
This ultimately feels like a step backwards to me. I understand their rationale, but we are in a crowd-sourced mode for reviews. I’d trust 2-week old user reviews for a hotel MUCH more than a 1 year old (at least) Zagat review.
I hope I’m wrong on this – or if nothing else, Google makes user-generated reviews and ratings MUCH more visible than they currently are.
